Flavia Gag Collection 1940-1961

Flavia Gag's collection focuses on her work as a writer and illustrator of children's books. This collection includes books, typescripts, illustrations, correspondence, magazine articles, newspaper clippings, artists dummys, research materials, printers proofs, and author holographs. Materials are in ink, watercolor, pencil and color pencil, crayon, and calligraphy. The collection includes manuscript materials for twenty-five titles published between 1940 and 1961.

Native to Minnesota, Flavia Gag (1907-1979) was born in New Ulm. She was an author and illustrator of children's books and numerous magazine articles--for her own books and for other authors. Although not as well known as her sister Wanda Gag, she was an author and illustrator in her own right. She lived in New York, New Jersey and Florida and enjoyed traveling between these sites.
